What is the Green Homes Grant?
This is a new scheme that will see the government fund up to two-thirds of the cost of home improvements of over 600,000 homes, improving their energy efficiency and reducing household energy bills.
All domestic properties (except new builds) qualify, including owner occupied homes or those rented from a private or social landlord. More information on the scheme can be found on the government website
What improvements are available?
Eligible improvements include solid wall, cavity wall, under-floor, loft, flat roof and room in roof insulation, and renewable heating – these are ‘primary measures’.
If you have a primary measure, you can also get secondary measures installed – these include energy efficient doors, double/triple glazed windows (when replacing single glazed windows) and draught proofing. However, the secondary measures cannot cost more than the primary measure(s).

EWI – A GREEN HOMES GRANT FUNDED MEASURE
External wall insulation (EWI) is a particularly effective energy saving measure for solid wall properties. Although it generally costs between £5,000 and £15,000, this funding could make this a very affordable investment – one unlikely to be repeated in the near future. Benefits of EWI include:

How much can I get?
The vouchers will pay for two thirds of the cost of the measure(s), up to a maximum of £5,000.
However, owner occupier or park home households on a low income (receiving income related or disability benefits) qualify for fully funded installations, up to £10,000.
Example
The owner of a mid-terrace house installs external wall insulation, costing around £6,000. The homeowner would contribute £2,000 and the government £4,000. The homeowner would also save around £160 per year on their energy bills and increase the potential re-sale price of their property.
How can I be sure the work is done properly?
The government will only fund work undertaken by competent and officially accredited installers, ensuring high standards and consumer protection.
All insulation installers must be TrustMark accredited to participate in the scheme. Cornerstone has been TrustMark accredited since the outset of the scheme for a range of measures.
