The Challenge
Cornerstone were appointed by the Greater South East Net Zero Hub as their exclusive park home insulation installer under the HUG2 scheme for 2023/24. Under this scheme, we worked with numerous local authorities to roll out coordinated schemes on some of their larger sites across the South East – including Uttlesford District Council (UDC).
UDC nominated their largest park home site – Takeley Park in Bishops Stortford – for the scheme. The site contains approximately 170 homes. Cornerstone visited the site to conduct a visual survey and found that up to 60 properties would be technically suitable for external wall insulation (EWI), and the site was approved by the Hub.
Our Solution
Cornerstone coordinated with the site owners - Turners Landex Parks – to gain permission for the scheme. The owners were fully supportive of the works, with their Park Manager extremely helpful in facilitating communications with residents and reassuring them that the scheme was legitimate.
An open day was held in June 2024, attended by nineteen residents as well as representatives from UDC and Cornerstone. Household eligibility was checked and surveys booked in.
Once approved for external wall insulation and/or underfloor insulation as well as ventilation upgrades where appropriate, the works were scheduled and residents shown samples of materials so they were reassured of their quality and could choose their preferred colour. Installations commenced soon afterwards, with additional households joining the scheme once its benefits became clear.
The Result
The Marsdens were one household that signed up for the works. Trevor Marsden has the heart condition dilated cardiomyopathy, which means he must stay warm. They initially thought the scheme was too good to be true, but applied after reassurance from their neighbours. They were quickly approved for external wall and underfloor insulation, as well as improved ventilation, with the works completed in just one week.
As a result, they have seen a £20 per month reduction in their energy bills, their home is easier to maintain and they are able to maintain a warm and stable temperature in their property. They were very pleased with all aspects of the installation - Donna Marsden commented: “Cornerstone were a very pleasant and hard-working team, always cleared away at the end of each day and ensured paths and driveways were clear once work was completed.”

“I can highly recommend Cornerstone as a local supplier. I worked with them under HUG2 retrofitting/insulating park homes and they were nothing short of fantastic.”
