Park Home EWI Scheme in Suffolk
Client: West Suffolk Councils
Measures: External Wall Insulation
Location: Stanton, Suffolk
Date: December 2015 – February 2016
Value: £198,000
The Challenge
Cornerstone partnered West Suffolk Council to install External Wall Insulation (EWI) on 24 park homes in Shepherds Grove Park in Stanton, Suffolk, between December 2015 and February 2016.
The park home site was selected due to the poor standard of existing insulation and the high level of fuel poverty among the largely elderly private residents.
The National Grid Energy Innovation Fund contributed £100,000 to the project, as well as funding the installation of 14 new gas connections and heating systems to homes with residents over the age of 70. Additional funding was contributed by the council and Suffolk’s Warm Homes Healthy People project.
Our Solution
Cornerstone successfully installed a BBA accredited EWI system with a 25 year guarantee. We also managed the end to end customer journey, liaising closely with residents via a dedicated local Resident Liaison Officer. Our Site Manager managed our relationship with National Grid contractors in order that overall disruption was minimised for residents.
Residents were able to choose from a wide range of finish colours, with the final decorative silicone render coat rejuvenating the properties and providing long term protection.
The Result
The previously poorly insulated walls achieved a post-installation U-Value of 0.29 W/2mk after the application of the Alumasc Swisstherm system, with the insulation also securing a 25 year insurance backed warranty.
Park home owners are now benefitting from warmer and more thermally efficient properties, which has in turn significantly reduced their energy bills. Park homes with existing central heating are expected to see lifetime CO2 savings of 25 tonnes and financial savings of at least £237 per year following installation of the EWI. Where new gas central heating was also installed, savings of £402 per year and lifetime CO2 savings of 64 tonnes are forecast.
Energy bill savings of up to £402 per year per property forecast
‘West Suffolk has been impressed by the professionalism and attention to detail provided by Cornerstone on the park home EWI project. All the residents have spoken very highly of the politeness and hardworking attitude of Cornerstone staff.’
